All shocks are measured center-of-eyelet to center-of-eyelet. When installing on '86-'15 XL models, you may need to modify or space the chain/belt guard to ensure proper clearance.

A shock slightly longer than stock may alter head angle and quicken steering; a slightly shorter shock can have the opposite effect.

For bikes operated near the manufacturer's maximum load rating often, consider the options intended for heavier use.
