The Short Sump Plug prevents the internal engine case scavenge pickup hole from being blocked, ensuring the cross-sump port stays wide open so the oil pump can pull as much oil as possible from the sump.

The fuel plug measures 0.265" tall versus the OEM 0.465", keeping the scavenge pickup clear. The M8 main sump cross port location and height can vary between engine cases because the factory machining breaks through the casting wall, while the Twin Cam cross scavenge pickup is a machined bore in a consistent position. This shorter plug reduces the chance of interference across varying M8 castings.
